Facilities

In Mumbai, the G.D. Parikh Centre housed in J.P. Naik Bhavan at the Vidyanagari Campus (Kalina) of Mumbai University provides a spacious seminar hall, meeting rooms, offices and essential AV equipment. In Pune, the main campus at Kothrud, from where the CES functions, provides a hostel, guest rooms, committee rooms, a Seminar / Conference hall, AV equipment and ICT facilities. It has a canteen service also. At the J.P. Naik Centre for Education and Development situated at about 3 kms from the main campus there is a large auditorium with about 300 seating capacity, seminar halls, committee rooms, a guest house for visiting faculty, a large hostel having A/C rooms and staff quarters. Conference facilities like AV aids, computers and so on are available. Also, canteen service is provided. The center at Shivapur has a conference hall, seminar halls, vocational training workshops, a large hostel, guesthouse, staff quarters and catering service. Transport is provided for fieldwork and meetings.

Institute's Location

The Institute’s location in Pune has many advantages which facilitate its programmes. While five types of agro-climatic areas within Pune District facilitate field-level educational experimentation in different socio-economic conditions, access to scholars in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Chennai (Madras) Hyderabad is easily provided through road, rail and air.

Traditionally, Pune has been an important seat of learning and originator of social and political reform movements which began nearly about 150 years ago. The city and its environs have an important place in Indian History.

Within 100 kms of Pune there are several historical monuments, spots of scenic grandeur and fascinating camping sites. Within the city itself, there are old and new institutions of national status conducting research in indology, archaeology, linguistics, religion, ancient literature and philosophy, modern science and technology, social work, governance and defence, arts and crafts, health and medicine. The Institute enjoys functional contacts with many of these.
